The Topological Version of Fodor’s Theorem

چکیده
The following purely topological generalization is given of Fodor’s theorem from [F1] (also known as the “pressing down lemma”): Let X be a locally compact, non-compact T2 space such that any two closed unbounded (c u b) subsets of X intersect [of course, a set is bounded if it has compact closure]; call S ⊂ X stationary if it meets every c u b in X. Then for every neighbourhood assignment U defined on a stationary set S there is a stationary subset T ⊂ S such that ∩{U(x) : x ∈ T} 6 = ∅. Just like the “modern” proof of Fodor’s theorem, our proof hinges on a notion of diagonal intersection of c u b’s, definable under some additional conditions. We also use these results to present an (alas, only partial) generalization to this framework of Solovay’s celebrated stationary set decomposition theorem. Club and Stationary Sets in ω1, Probability Measures, and Ulam Matrices
In this talk I will discuss some interesting subsets of ω1 – club-sets, Borel subsets, stationary and bi-stationary subsets of ω1 – and the theorem about them that has been most useful to me over the years, called Fodor’s Theorem. The question “How many types of stationary sets exist in ω1?” will be a recurring theme. (Spoiler alert: there are uncountably many really distinct stationary subsets...
متن کاملOn intermediate value theorem in ordered Banach spaces for noncompact and discontinuous mappings
In this paper, a vector version of the intermediate value theorem is established. The main theorem of this article can be considered as an improvement of the main results have been appeared in [textit{On fixed point theorems for monotone increasing vector valued mappings via scalarizing}, Positivity, 19 (2) (2015) 333-340] with containing the uniqueness, convergent of each iteration to the fixe...
متن کامل$L$-Topological Spaces
By substituting the usual notion of open sets in a topological space $X$ with a suitable collection of maps from $X$ to a frame $L$, we introduce the notion of L-topological spaces. Then, we proceed to study the classical notions and properties of usual topological spaces to the newly defined mathematical notion. Our emphasis would be concentrated on the well understood classical connectedness...

متن کاملOn Tychonoff's type theorem via grills
Let ${X_{alpha}:alphainLambda}$ be a collection of topological spaces, and $mathcal {G}_{alpha}$ be a grill on $X_{alpha}$ for each $alphainLambda$. We consider Tychonoffrq{}s type Theorem for $X=prod_{alphainLambda}X_{alpha}$ via the above grills and a natural grill on $X$ related to these grills, and present a simple proof to this theorem. This immediately yields the classical theorem...
